| The 54th Anniversary
convention at Pheasant Run Resort was another great success! Among the events was IMAWA's
12th annual charity fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics Illinois, during
which our members raised $7,500! Our Association is a bronze
sponsor for the Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby, to be held in Chicago on 08.08.08, and our
friendly "in-family" competition will be to see which movers can sell the most
rubber duckies to further benefit Special Olympics.
All monies raised at every IMAWA auction go directly to Special Olympics Illinois.
Including this year, IMAWA members have contributed more than $80,000 in cash
(which doesn't even include all the generous donations of items for the auction and other
events). Congratulations to all!
Kelly Manso, daughter
of Mr. & Mrs. Sal Manso, Reebie Storage & Moving, Franklin Park, was named
recipient of the 2008 IMAWA College Scholarship.
In 1997, the board of directors
unanimously voted to rename the IMAWA scholarship as The Doug Schneider
Scholarship in memory of our board member Doug Schneider (Bill's Moving &
Storage, Rock Island), who inspired the scholarship back in 1994. Eighteen students
have benefited from Doug's foresight, and we're proud of them.
